OUR RESPONSE TO HURRICANE HARVEY DISASTER – UPDATED 09/06/17

Here are some ways you can help:

1. GIVE to Support the Relief Effort

  • to Baptist temple to repair the building (designate “BT Hurricane Relief” on your check to Baptist Temple)
  • to CBF Disaster Response Support (designate “CBF Disaster Relief” on your check to Baptist Temple)
    • You may mail to our office: 230 West 20th Street, Houston, TX 77008, or place in the offering plate any Sunday morning.

2. PROVIDE Supplies for Volunteers

We are hosting numerous volunteer teams from churches around the country.
We need you to bring supplies for them:
  • Bottled Water
  • Bottled Gatorade or Powerade
  • Granola Bars
  • Protein Bars / Energy Bars
  • Cookies
  • Chocolates
  • Travel-size toiletries (shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes/toothpaste, hand sanitizer, etc.)
    • You may also give to BT to help us purchase these supplies for you if you are unable (designate “BT Hurricane Relief” on your check)
    • You may drop off supplies Sunday mornings between 8am and 12pm, or you may call Kelly to schedule a drop-off: 713.705.3891.

3. HOST Volunteers at Baptist Temple

We need church member individuals or couples or families to serve as “Host” for one week for a volunteer work team.  You do not have to spend the night at the church.  This is our most significant need.
  1. Meet them when they arrive and show them the facilities
  2. Serve as their primary contact for the week
  3. Check on them daily, and assist with any needs
  4. Be a problem-solver
If you are interested in serving as a “Host”, BE AT CHURCH SUNDAY EVENING SEPT. 10 FOR ORIENTATION WITH THE FIRST WORK TEAM.  TIME TBA.  More information will be announced Sunday morning.

Whether or not you are able to directly support relief efforts, we must all respond in these ways:

  • Pray for those affected and for those working recovery efforts
  • Contact friends, neighbors, and family members and find small ways to assist and support them
  • Give above and beyond your tithe to our church to help make-up our Sunday of lost income (8/27/17)
  • Encourage those serving around you by a word of affirmation; or a meal or supplies provided to a first responder; or patronage of a locally-owned business that has suffered lost revenues

We will continue to assess needs in our community, and will post additional updates on this Facebook page, by email, and on our website: www.baptisttemple.org
